PM of Pakistan Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif Launches PM National Laptop Scheme with the Collaboration of Higher Education Commission of Pakistan. This HEC National Laptop Scheme is for the students of All over the Pakistan. Near about 5 Lakh Laptops will be distributed in the 5 years for Prime Minister Laptop Scheme 2016
Along with this Laptop Scheme, PM Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif also announces Prime Minister’s Fee Reimbursement Scheme for Students from Less Developed areas, Prime Minister’s Youth Business Loans, Interest Free Loan Scheme, Prime Minister’s Youth Training Scheme and Prime Minister’s Youth Skills Development Scheme.
The main Objective of this Scheme is to make the Youth well aware of Technology. Also whenever, there is investment on Youth, it always has highest rate of return. This will ensure Technical skills in Youth after which they can easily stand with required marketable skills. This project will empower youth in their education, academic and research activities.
After the distribution of Free Laptops to the youth, it will bring paradigm shift in the on going Education and research culture in our beloved country. In the present age, personal computing devices like Calculators and Laptops are very necessary for each student. Keeping all these points in their mind, HEC and Government of Pakistan has decided to distribute Laptop to all the students current in Higher Education Institutes mainly to those who are starting their education career to ensure that they can get maximum benefit from this initiative.
- Prime Minister’s National Laptop Scheme – Phase I (2014)
This PM National Laptop Scheme with the collaboration of Higher Education Commission of Pakistan was announced in budget of 2013 with the aim to distribute 100000 Laptops to the students of all over the Pakistan in Next 5 Year. On the directions of PM of Pakistan this Scheme started to work for Phase-I. In this Phase all the eligible students who were enrolled in any of the Govt. institute or degree awarding institute recognized by HEC Pakistan were given a Laptop of Haier, a Backpack Bag for the protection of Laptop and PTCL EVO Device with special internet Package. In this Phase 5% quota was reserved for the students of Azad Jammu and Kashmir and for the Government Polytechnic Institutes of Pakistan.
- Prime Minister’s Laptop Scheme – Phase II (2015)
As this Scheme was announced in the budget of Fiscal Year-2013 & 14 and started in the mid of 2013, this is NEXT four Years as well. In each Phase 100000 Laptops will be distributed. Like in the past years, this year with some advancement students are provided with access to HEC’s National Digital Library using 3G PTCL EVO Device, MOS Certification voucher and Microsoft Office365 application software and many more.

Merit Lists Criteria:
The total number of Laptops to be distributed each year is 100000 but the eligible for the PM Laptop Scheme are very large in number. So the Laptops are distributed every year purely on merit. There is specific criteria defined by HEC for the distribution of Laptops. Specific percentage of Laptops has been registered for each year Students.
However, Only students having 60% marks in Annual Examination System and 70% marks in Semester Systems are eligible to apply and further they will be considered for the Merit List to be generated. The mentioned CGPA/GPA or percentage in Last exam will be calculated as per HEC defined rules.
The distribution criteria defined by HEC is as follows:
- All the students enrolled in MS, PhD, MPhil or any equivalent program will get Laptops.
- There is different percentage for different levels.
